Weight of Being 2013,
Installation is very performative activity, which is the use of material to transform a space or an area. The subject matter of installation method is to create memory with viewers not only by showing artwork, but also by experiencing and participating in given space.
The project consists of thirty-three sets of paper casts of individuals’ feet and numerous photos of bottom feet figures. In this particular project, I seek to create body of work that shows corporeal demonstration of being human as we doubt our true value of ourselves.
I offer an intimate look at the presence of strangers. Viewers walk amongst each other and casts of feet, which occupy and share their space. Two‐dimensional photographs of the bottom of feet suggest the corporal weight of bodies, evoking a physical interaction between the artwork and viewers, and requesting acceptance of the human.
Casting individual’s feet is a true collaborative and participatory act, which allows me to establish a sincere connection with the participants. During more than thirty sessions of feet casting, my participants and I shared the stories of our lives. Through their time and genuine effort to draw our memories together.
